Flasherz takes on Xpendable in the division IB finals of the NYSCL 25 Over Championship at Roy Wilkins Park. The Fair was going in full force at the other end of the park, the stands were full with spectators supporting both teams. This is what it came down to after 9 games in the competition.
The two teams lined up for introduction and pep talk from NYSCL President Mr. Eric Ferrier before the start of the game. The President said this game will bring experience versus youths, after the President was finish the two teams met and shook hands. The toss was won by Xpendable who in turn opted to take the field first.
Opening batting for Flasherz was Rocco Dindayal and Mark EZ, opening the bowling for Xpendable was Navin Narine. Rocco Dindayal face the first ball of the day and he was bowled first ball. Xpendable decision to bowl first seems to be a good one. Joining Mark EZ at the crease is none other than Nyal Singh. Mark EZ and Nyal Singh had to try and build a partnership but that didn’t last too long as Mark EZ was bowled by Sunil Dilchand for 12 in the 6th over putting at Flasherz 28 for 2. Xpendable on top and all Xpendable players and supporters up in the air as their decision to take the field first was paying off.
Joining Nyal Singh was Randy Narayan, and both batsmen knew if Flasherz have any chance of winning they had to build a desperately needed partnership. Both batsmen dug in for the next 7 overs until the 13 over interval. Nyal Singh on 29 and Randy Narayan on 27 to give Flasherz what they needed. The first good partnership. Flasherz score book at the interval 78 for 2.
Nyal Singh did not lasted too long after the interval and was bowled by Navin Narine in the 14th over without adding to his total. Xpendable all talks at this point saying some not so nice words to Nyal Singh as he walked back to the pavilion. Xpendable now thought that it’s was game over for Flasherz as they removed Flasherz most reliable and top scorer. Well, 11 overs to go Flasherz on 87 for 3.
All this time Xpendable is looking to get rid of Nyal Singh and ignoring Randy Narayan at the other end who at this point was on 33. Joining Narayan at the crease was Sarfraz Khan (Jerry), Khan and Narayan now put on a display unlike any other and started to strike the ball all over the ground. Narayan finding the boundary combine with Khan playing a much need support role to Narayan.
Khan also decided to take a go at it with Narayan. Flasherz players and supporters on their feet with excitements and the display Narayan and Khan was putting on, however, every good thing must come to an end as Khan was caught at long off boundary for 33, four 4’s and one 6. Xpendable got the breakthrough but it was too late, as the score card now 175 for 4 and 3 overs to go.
A. Sirpal (Big Six) took to the crease. Narayan and Sirpal pushed the score to over two hundred as Sirpal was bowled in the 5th delivery of the 25th over. Flasherz after 25 overs 206 for 5. Narayan showed what is capable of when under pressure and was 80 not out which comprised of ten 4’s and two 6’s.
Narayan delivered a Man of The Match inning for Flasherz when needed and was awarded as such. Bating for Flasherz, R. Narayan 80 not out, S. Khan 33, N. Singh 29, and A. Sirpal 23. Bowling for Xpendable N. Narine 2 for 42, Dilchand, Etwaroo and Shakur took 1 wicket each.
Now it was Xpendable turn to face Flasherz bowling. Opening the batting was S. Ally and D. Persaud, Flasherz Captain Mark EZ decided to stick to what have been working for him the entire competition and give the new ball to Nyal Singh and Rabin Sookraj, Sookraj struck in his first over to remove D. Persaud caught at backward square by R. Narayan for 1 and then twice again in the 4th over, bowling S. Ally behind his back for 1 and brilliant stumping of K. Budram for a golden Duck.
Hamid was run out in the fifth over to put Xpendable top order in a frenzy as 5 overs gone and their top 4 batsmen back in the stands. In the 6th over R. Sookraj struck again to remove R. Sugrim caught again at backward square by Narayan off a slower delivery. Seems like Xpendable in a down fall 6 overs gone score now 30 for 5. At the crease is N. Ganeshram and N. Narine, these two batsmen had to build some kind of partnership and have to start going after Flasherz bowlers and that they did with some hard hitting, at the 13th over interval Xpendable was on 91 for 5.
Flasherz knew they had to do something to break up this partnership if they have any chance. Flasherz Captain brought on S. Khan to bowl. This was what Flasherz needed as Khan removed N. Narine in his second over by uprooting his leg stumps for a welled played 36 in a 70 runs partnership between him and Ganeshram.
Ganeshram did not lasted too long as he was removed by Ricky Bisnath with a brilliant caught and bowl off the 1st ball in the next over. It was all over for Xpendable as S. Khan removed Ravi Etwaroo and Ronald Evelyn for 7 each. T. Deonaraine provided the death blow in the 21.3 over as Xpendable innings end 131 all out, giving Flasherz victory by 75 Runs. Bating for Xpendable N. Narine 36 and T. Ganeshram 26. Bowling for Flasherz R. Sookraj 4 for 29, S. Khan 3 for 27, Bisnath and Deonarain 1 wicket each.

By Rabin Sookraj

On a gentle windy afternoon at Seaview Park Flasherz stepped into the park ready for battle against a formable Essequibo team. Essequibo after defeating Renegades in the quarter finals chasing 199 runs to win came in with full confidents and looking to upset Flasherz.
Essequibo take the crease first and opening the bowling for Flasherz was the inform Nyal Singh. The Essequibo opening pair of T. Butler and D. Hooper, was only able to score 2 runs in the first over. Rabin Sookraj joined Nyal Singh sharing the new ball, Sookraj started shaky in his first over bowling two wides and conceding a total of 9 nuns.
Essequibo was going strong but it was only the second over. Nyal Singh and Rabin Sookraj re-coop and came back strong. Rabin Sookraj was the first to strike in the 6th over. After 6 overs Essequibo was 1 for 25 and Essequibo now know they had a battle on their hands because Flasherz was not going to give it up easily.
Flasherz Captain Mark EZ made his first bowling change and brought himself on and he struck in his first over helped by a brilliant diving catch at long off by M. Nandkishun. Rabin Sookraj continued with the Flasherz captain and he struck twice in the 8th over. At the water break Essequibo score card read 4 for 51.
Flasherz continue to put the pressure on Essequibo. Flashers Captain introduce two new bowlers, Ricky Bisnath and T. Deonaraine who continue to squeeze Essequibo batsmen who had to earn every run they got which was not easy to come due to some great fielding from the entire Flasherz team.
Ricky stuck twice while Deonaraine did not take any wickets but he kept the run rate at a bare minimum. Deonaraine finish his spell of 5 overs for 11 runs. Bowling for Flasherz were R. Bisnath 5 overs 17 runs 2 wickets, Mark EZ 5 overs 1 wicket for 19 and R. Sookraj 5 overs 3 wickets for 17. Essequibo after their 25 allotted overs were 112/7.
Flasherz now to face Essequibo bowlers, opening for Flasherz were Rocco Dindayal and Mark EZ, Rocco Dindayal started out a little shaky after an inside edge onto the stumps in the first over but fortune was on his side, the bails did not dislodge. That’s the chance Dindayal was looking for and started to strike the ball all over the ground picking up singles and double and a few boundaries.
Denzel Beaton was the first to strike for Essequibo when he removed Mark EZ by bowling him but the damaged was already done, Dindayal and Mark EZ put on a 56 runs partnership. Nyal Singh score first century and Flasherz win two straight

As is expected many teams would have a slow start, coming into the new season. Sometime it is not because the players are out of form, many times it has to do with the players blending together, as the season goes on. This happen with almost all the teams as during the off season players would change teams. Flasherz has had its share of players leaving and new players coming on board.
If it had any impact on the team’s performance, it has not shown thus far in the season. Flasherz had managed to score over two hundred runs in each of their first two games. In the season opening game they scored over two hundred against Sheffield and last Sunday they won a last over nail biter versus Survival.
Survival won the toss and asked Flasherz to field, Survival got off to a very good start. The openers Dwarka and Khan put on a stand of 75 runs before losing their first wicket in the eight over. Khan top score with 58, Ali 29, Dwarka 27 and Mahendra Hariraj 22 were the main scorer in a total of 208 for 7 in their allotted overs. Bowling for Flasherz, Safraz Khan took 3 for 50 and Mark claimed 2 for 25.
When Flasherz took the crease with Awad Hasildar and Mark, against the bowling of Ryan Taharjit and Mohamed Nazir, they find it difficult to score against the pacers. In the third over Taharjit struck, Hasildar was out caught for 8 and the total only 11. Nyal Singh came to the wicket and looked in very good touch as he played every ball by its merit.
Singh and Mark would stayed together and build a partnership of 80 runs, before Mark was bowled by Paul Virappen for 46 and the total on 91. With the fall of Mark wicket, the Survival bowlers struck in quick succession claiming the wicket of Rocco for 1 and Nandkishun was run out for 9.
While wickets was falling Nyal Singh stayed and played some glorious cricket shots as he kept the score and run rate up. Sarfraz Khan was bowled by Virappen for 7 and the same bowler return and had Akesh Sirpal bowled for 8. With the fall of every wicket, Survival chances looked very good, but Nyal knew if Flasherz stand any chance he has to keep the strike. Trying for a quick single, Randy was run out for one, Rabin Sookraj came together with Singh and with one over remaining, Flasherz still needed 20 runs.
The stands was packed, everyone on their feet, the wind was picking up and it was a little chill as the sun made its way to the western side of the field. Nyal took strike and Khan gets the ball, the fielders was bracing the boundaries.
Nyal knew he would have to clear the boundaries, and he did twice with two towering sixes and a cover drive for four. With 3 balls remaining and still 4 runs needed, the game had shift in Flasherz favour, with Nyal still on strike. He pulled the next ball to deep mid-wicket for a double and the fifth ball went for another double.
Flasherz won with one ball to spare and Nyal was left not out on 103, Virappen took 3 for 29, Taharjit and Mangra grabbed one wicket apiece.
