The Sunrise cricket club sponsored by Kaieteur Liberty Restaurant and Bar at 120th Street and Liberty Avenue, and Hansa Engineer Services, PC at 128th Street and Liberty expected a battle facing Flashers last Sunday at Kissena. Most interesting the last time these two teams met the game ended in a draw, and this game had all of the same thrilling components. Flashers winning the toss took no chances as they were bowled out in the last deliver which resulted in the tie game in their last encounter with Sunrise. Most importantly in their preceding week’s match Flashers scored over 200 plus runs against Liberty Knights and looked to serve Sunrise the same dish as Randy Narine and Mark EZ looked to give their team a strong start.
Both batsmen showed aggression but Khemraj Somaru of Sunrise was resilient after giving up a double to start off the game and in the last ball of his first overs had Randy Narine caught at cover by Deryck Basdeo with the score at 4. As Mark was finding success in scoring Khemraj who was bowling in line struck again shattering Rocco stump in the 3rd over. Khemraj came back was on fire to start his 3rd overs and clean bowl Vick Singh in his first delivery as Flashers was in disbelief with the score 3 for 19 in the 4th over. To turn up the pressure on Flashers Deryck Basdeo Sunrise leading wicket taker was given the ball and came up big as he dangled D Singh stumps.
Looking for wickets Ramjit Singh was summoned and all hell broke loose for Flashers batting. Ramjit had Andy caught brilliantly by Deryck Basdeo at deep square leg, bowled Mark for 18, and had Vikash Singh caught at short stop by Alix Hussain. Ramjit left the Flasher team devastated and dismayed as the score card read 38 for 7 in the 9th over. Looking for the kill the ball was given back to Deryck to swipe the air out of Flashers batting. In his 2nd delivery Deryck had Raaj caught by Ramjit at silly point, Beisal stumped beautifully by Wahab, and Rabin caught by Ramjit at point which drew the last blood out of Flashers with the score 40 all out in 10 over. Flashers was stunned and left spellbound after being wrapped up Sunrise bowlers.
The Sunrise bowlers were untouchable with outstanding bowling figures by Deryck Basdeo 4 for 8, Ramjit Singh 3 for 1 which was the miracle over and Khemraj Somaru who started the wicket taking 3 for 21 that paved the way for his team bowling havoc over Flashers.
With Flashers bowling squad no one expect that they will bowed out easily as Deryck Basdeo and his captain Roopnarine Dayal faced off Beisal who looks sharp to defend their total. Beisal 1st delivery was short as Deryck flashed and was caught which brought a roar from Flashers with the score 1 for 0. In the same over Beisal in his 4th delivery clean bowled Wahab Hussain as the score read 2 for 0 and Flashers team believed they has game on and a chance. Dayal joined by Rohit Kowlesser had to fend of Vikash Singh who started is spell by bowling a maiden. Dayal found success as he picked up some quick boundaries and with Rohit who defensive stroke was working. Trying to win the small total quickly Rohit took a dangerous shot run and was ran out the score at 20 for 3 in the 5th overs.
D Singh bowling at number 3 bowling was remarkable and started his spell with a maiden overs as he had Rajesh Harriprashad bowled. Dayal lead and aggressive batting chase and he make 14 and after popping out to short mid on. With strong believe that they can win Flasher bowlers bowled in the right areas and was top notch trying to hold down Sunrise batsmen. After slamming a boundary to long on Antonio Dalli was taken by Beisal with the score at 39 for 6. Khemraj and Ramjit Singh appropriately were left to close the game and wrapped the required runs and took their team to 41 for 6. It was breath taking game as Flasher made Sunrise batsmen worked very hard for each runs compiling numerous maiden overs.
The Flasher bowlers were tough as D. Singh led the bowling with figures of 2 for 6. While Vikash was 1 for 4 and Beisal 2 for 18.

The Sunrise cricket club sponsored by Kaieteur Liberty Restaurant and Bar at 120th Street and Liberty Avenue, and Hansa Engineer Services, PC at 128th Street and Liberty looked to stay warm given the cold weather last Sunday at Kissena Park in Flushing Queens. As the Sunrise members locked in for their first win in the 2013 season against the Waves cricket club who won the toss and elected to bat in this 25 overs match.
Brain Bisram and Ravi Ramsaroop braved the chilled weather as they faced Sunrise opening pair Khemraj Somaru and Rohit Kowlesser. Khemraj and Rohit were both economical as Brian and Ravi batted very cautious to give their team a good start. Sunrise Manger/Player Ramjit Singh bowling at number 3 in his first over had Brian caught behind by keeper Wahab Hussain in the 6th over with the score at 26. As Khemraj continue to bowl through in his 4th over had Ravi caught at long on by a brilliant one hand catch by Rohit Kowlesser with the score 2 for 30 in the 7th over. Narine Bissesar and Aftab Mohamed partnered to put runs on the board for their team. Narine connected for some huge boundaries while Aftab had his own success. However as Deryck Basdeo and Ravi Etwaroo was introduced they clap down with the runs as Waves score read 60 for 2 in the 13th over half.
With wickets in had it was understood by Sunrise to brace for an explosive batting from Waves remaining batsmen. As Narine continues to find the boundary and Aftab right there supporting him after 47 runs partnership Ramjit strike again having Aftab caught at long off by a brilliant running catch by Khemraj Somaru with the score at 77 for 3 in the 17th overs. Narine continue with his superb batting inning for his team was joined by Rocky Rishideo as this due put on another partnership. Narine was astounding putting away the many bad deliveries by Sunrise bowlers and exploded for runs as Rocky was run out for 14 by Alix Hussain from short midwicket with the score 129 for 4 in the 22 overs. Narine who made his half century continue to be key as the other Waves batsmen batted around him. Sunrise leading bowler Deryck Basdeo picked the wicket of Asif Safie as Rohit Kowlesser close Waves batting taking the price wicket of Narine Bissesar with a solid knock of 64 and made the key difference in Waves batting. As they score read 148 for 6 Sunrise bowlers was tagged hard in their second half and Waves built defendable total.
Sunrise bowling figures were spread across all as Ramjit Singh lead with 2 wickets , and Khemraj Somaru, Rohit Kowlesser, and Deryck Basdeo had one each.
Sunrise captain Roopnarine Dayal and Deryck Basdeo started the chase but Leonard Bisram of Waves struck in the first over finding the stump of Deryck with the score at 6. Dayal who looked solid and scoring freely was joined by Wahab Hussain as they try to lay the perfect start for their team. However in the 5th over Dayal slammed a shot to deep long on off the bowling of Vickram Lall but was caught brilliantly by Shazam Ali with the score at 21 for 2. With another setback for good start Wahab was joined by Rohit Kowlesser to repair the damages. Wahab and Rohit were able to move the score to 53 in the 9 over as Wahab was bowled by Raco Rishideo for 17. While Rohit was gaining success off of Waves bowler he was joined Raj Balgobin one of Sunrise up and coming promising young batsmen. Rohit who found success with putting away bad bowling to the boundaries helped to keep Sunrise run rate above the required. Raj ended his batting spell in an undisputed run in the 10 overs with the score 68 for 4. Wave’s bowlers were penetrating picket up wickets at quick interval not allowing Sunrise batsmen to brew partnership. Rajesh Harriprashad a new comer to Sunrise batting with Rohit played the perfect anchor role as they took the score to 87 for 4 at the 13 over half and in route to reached their required target.
Waves after a long discussion knew they needed to take quick wickets and slow down the pace of Sunrise batsmen. As planned they successfully restricted Rohit and Rajesh in the next 5 overs as they was scoring below 4 runs per over as the required run rated climbed to 7 plus. However Rohit along with Rajesh stuck to their task and after a brilliant 50 runs partnership Rajesh was caught at deep backward square leg with the score 118 for 5 in the 20 over. With 31 needed in 4.4 over Rohit who was the star batsmen for Sunrise was accompanied by the vet ram Selwyn Cheong who is no stranger in finishing games. The game was at a balance and could have gone to either team. Wave’s bowlers and fielders were as optimistic and determined to keep their score from Sunrise reach. However Rohit and Cheong had their own plans as they picked up some quick double and boundaries. They took the game to their comfort zone leaving 7 runs to make in 2 overs. Cheong wasted no time as he hammered a cover drive boundary to end the game. Rohit who scored an unbeaten 66 and Cheong 10 helped Sunrise reached their target by making 151 for 5 in 23.4 overs. It was a much needed first win for Sunrise which brought joy and confidence to all members.
Wave played hard and should be given credit as Leonardo lead his team bowling with 2 for 20, followed by Raco Rishideo and Vickram Lall 1 each.
